Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Reykjavik

Welcome to Iceland! Your adventure begins. Once you're transferred from the airport to your hotel via Flybus transfer, the rest of the day is yours to explore!

  • Day 2

Heading to Hella & the Blue Lagoon

Reykjavik - Reykjanes Peninsula - Blue Lagoon - Hella. This morning, we meet our tour guide and fellow travellers before exploring the highlights of Reykjavík, Iceland’s vibrant capital. We then travel to the Reykjanes Peninsula, a region known for its dramatic volcanic landscapes, geothermal activity, rugged coastline, lava fields and charming fishing villages.

In the afternoon, we visit the famous Blue Lagoon, where you can relax in its warm, mineral-rich waters surrounded by Iceland’s unique volcanic scenery. We then continue along the south coast to Hella, where we stay for two nights. This evening, our guide will share information about the Northern Lights before we head outside to search for this spectacular natural phenomenon.

  • Day 3

    Grumbling glaciers and roaring falls

Hella - Eyjafjallajökull - Seljalandsfoss - Skógafoss - Reynisfjara - Hella. Today we explore Iceland’s dramatic south coast, travelling through the region beneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier and visiting some of the country’s most impressive natural wonders. Discover the towering Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, with an optional glacier hike on Sólheimajökull available (must be booked in advance).

If you choose not to join the glacier hike, continue south to Reynisfjara, Iceland’s famous black sand beach, where you can admire the dramatic coastline and bird cliffs near Vík. This evening, learn more about the Northern Lights before another opportunity to search the skies from the grounds of the Hotel.

  • Day 4

Geysers and Gullfoss on the Golden Circle

Hella - Golden Circle - Reykjavík. This morning, we learn about the Icelandic horse, its unique qualities and fascinating history, before visiting a geothermal greenhouse and discovering Iceland’s innovative use of natural energy. We then follow the famous Golden Circle route, witnessing the steaming geothermal landscapes of Geysir, including the active Strokkur geyser, and the impressive double waterfall of Gullfoss.

Our final stop is Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Iceland’s ancient Viking parliament was established and the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. Return to Reykjavík for your final evening, with an optional Northern Lights cruise available (weather permitting).

  • Day 5

    Reykjavik to home

And just like that, our tour comes to an end. Enjoy your final morning in Iceland however you wish, before your Flybus transfer to the airport. We're sure you'll be back soon.

  • The Land of Northern Lights tour was a triumph! My tour of Southern Iceland was absolutely wonderful. The venues chosen, the timing allotted at each venue and the variety of things to experience was nearly perfect. Our guide, "Thor", was smart, amusing, full of history and anecdotal stories as well as being incredibly hospitable and helpful. This small group experience was my first, but not my last thanks to On the Go.

  • I would rate this Iceland tour highly. The guide, Eyrun was brilliant and the accommodation and breakfasts were wonderful. The itinerary was great and the guide always did her best for us, even if roads were closed and there were necessary itinerary changes. She always kept us informed of what was going on and gave excellent information. We were so lucky to see the Northern lights and loved the chalet accommodation in the South of Iceland. My only gripe would be the Flybus coach from the airport to the hotel - we had to wait 2 hours and nobody was sure what was happening
